The Steam XML IDE™ is an interactive development environment that includes a comprehensive set of tools for the Steam XML platform. It provides an environment to write, run, and debug Water programs. The Steam XML IDE expression stepper provides much greater programmer guidance than the typical line-by-line steppers of other IDEs. Steam Engine

The Steam Engine™ runtime environment is a commercial implementation of a Water runtime environment. It is deploys on a standard Java platform as an Applet, Servlet or stand-alone program and executes programs written in the Water language.

The Steam Engine is priced by the number of Steam Ports or virtual users. A Steam Port represents a load of up to 60 requests per minute and up to 60K bytes of XML data per minute.

XML Framework for Algorithm Innovation

The XML Framework for Algorithm Innovation is a layer on top of the Steam XML development environment. It uses the Water language for defining classes that represent simulations and a connecting framework to invoke and test the simulations. Each simulation can be an algorithm that solves a particular problem or merely a stand-in "dummy" simulation to aid in prototyping the overall architecture of the "system of systems" before doing the work on the details. Interfaces between XFAI and other systems such as MatLab and High Performance Computing resources will be developed or extended as needed.

XFAI includes a scripting language for general purpose algorithm development with extensions for facilitating the creation of simulations in the framework. The extensions help in experimentation, as well as writing and running a test suite for fleshed out simulations. Key high-level pieces of these extensions have GUI interfaces to help with easy invocation and demos. A web server for remotely controlling the framework via a web browser is included. Numerical computations are performed in double precision floating point and 32 bit signed integers. An interface to Java is provided.
